Diwa De Leon event Sinag De Leon

Memories on Two Strings

Music and arts go hand in hand. Last Saturday, I went to Conspiracy Garden Cafe to check out friends in an art exhibit and album launch. It was a great event that featured Sinag de Leon‘s art opening of her paper cut creations which was inspired by the music of her brother Diwa de Leon‘s latest solo LP, Memories on Two Strings. The gallery boasted of beautifully created artworks that would run until the 31st of January 2012.

Diwa, also a member of the Pinoy world music group called Makiling, uses a Hegalong instrument, a two-string instrument from the Philippines, thus the title of the album.

Opening the night was Jeff Pagaduan, who performed his original compositions in front of the awed crowd with his ala Andy Mckee style of guitar playing while singing. After Jeff was the main event. Diwa, along with friends Aba Dalena, Zab Reyes on guest vocals, Jp Hernandez and Frances Escape on percussion did songs from the current and previous album.

The album Memories on Two Strings is a two-set CD that also features Cooky Chua of Color It Red and Charice’s vocal coach Jeanne Vicars on guest vocals. The songs give a nice, chillaxing vibe, and as you listen to the tunes, the more you get hooked at them, at the same time it serves as a lesson101 of sort because it allows the listeners to get exposed of this awesome local string instrument. With the mix of popular music of different genres and the Hegalong, it’s a whole new experience. Containing 25 great songs, it has everything on the menu from upbeat to mellow to something that rocks.

Here’s the single from the album entitled “Moonrise” featuring Cookie Chua on vocals.

Foo Fighters music

Foo Fighters’ Wasting Light

Still had a hangover with this live performance I saw by the Foo Fighters at their Youtube channel. Performing songs from their latest album, Wasting Light, they did the catalogue straight and clean. I really dig their guitar tones. Awesome sound! Truly one of the great bands around! Nice to see Pat Smear playing guitars again with them.

Next is their new video release entitled “Walk” off their new album Wasting Light. It’s a parody of Joel Schumacher’s 1993 movie Falling Down starring Michael Douglas. The band has once again pulled off another wacky vid, they’re really good at doing these kind of stuffs, putting up humor in their hard rocking songs. Dave Grohl and company rock!

Date With Fate music

Date With Fate Album In The Works

Date With Fate, the side project of half of Crude Oz members, is recording new materials for their independent debut album release. The band has an alternative pop rock sound with a touch of ambient and new wave influence. Backing tracks for six songs were done and just waiting for the vocal tracks to lay in. A few more songs and off we go!

GBOB music

GBOB 2011 NCR Semi-Final Round

The recently concluded semi-final round of GBOB 2011 for NCR was a success. 15 bands competing, only 5 winners.

The semi-finalists showed off their hard rockin’ performances in front of the jampacked crowd. The judges from last night’s event were Sammy Asuncion of the band Spy and Kalayo, Mark Escueta of Rivermaya and a representative from GBOB international. Hosted by former MTV Phil. video jock and current host of GBOB show at UR105.9 John Joe.

These bands were so talented that instead of 5, they picked 6 winners namely Wilabaliw, Penguin, Circa, Pancake 80, Final Vow and Anhura.
