Tears for Fears

Tears for Fears 2012 Show in Manila

Tears for Fears were back in Manila last 2012 for a series of shows on August 10 & 11 2012 at Smart-Araneta Coliseum, and Cebu on August 12, 2012 at Cebu Waterfront Hotel & Casino. It was a show I couldn’t miss so after watching the Smashing Pumpkins’ show, a day after, I was back at the venue and got to see the duo of Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith perform for the first time. The previous show they had, it was a sold-out one, and their return was even bigger, only showed that there were many new wavers out here to enjoy the concert.

The concert also had Per Sorensen of another 80’s group Fra Lippo Lippi, who opened up for the band. Another artist featured on the opener was singer/songwriter Carina Round who performed an awesome solo acoustic set and sang along the band later.

Here are some vids captured by fans during the August 10 show.

Smashing Pumpkins

Smashing Pumpkins in Manila

2012 saw a lot of foreign artists coming in the country to perform for a show, one of them was 90’s alternative group Smashing Pumpkins which had a world tour for their latest album Oceania.

Although it was a rough time for the band (it was their first time in the Philippines) as the country’s facing strong typhoon, it was good that they did the show after postponing the scheduled date and moved it to another day.

Fans were waiting for the announcement the following day and it was a sigh of relief that they continued to do the show at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum despite heavy rains that still followed.

It was a great time watching them, especially being a fan of the early to mid 90’s rock era. It would have been great if the original members were reunited to play together, just like what I saw in the STP show, but it seemed that it would never happened. So the current lineup was more of like a Billy Corgan solo project only the name he carried was Smashing Pumpkins. Anyway, the new members were also great and they’ve pulled it off so well.

First half of the show saw them doing the full catalogue of Oceania, then on the next set, were mix of hit singles and songs from their previous albums.

Here are some of the captured clips from one of the fans who were able to witness the band’s awesome 2 1/2 hour long show!

Death Cab for Cutie Perform Live in Manila!

For the first quarter of 2012, Manila has already staged a number of live concerts from various foreign artists, among them is the American alternative indie-rock group Death Cab for Cutie. The band performed at the NBC Tent, Fort Bonifacio Global City Taguig City last March 5 and it was a success.

It was a great set by the guys who played so intact that pumped up the whole crowd.

Here are some clips captured by fans if you’ve missed this event. Many thanks to them for the awesome vids. Two thumbs up! 🙂

One thing with Filipino fans that’s so satisfying to do a concert here if you’re a foreign artist is that, if you’ve got a hit song and you play it live, expect most if not all will sing along from start to finish. And they know the lyrics so damn well!

Bush Evanescence

Evanescence Brings Life to Manila

Last February 19, Manila experienced another rockin’ performance with not one, but two class acts at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum (Big Dome) on same night! Evanescence, one of today’s premiere rock group performed for a one night concert together with Bush as their front act.

It’s a mix of two bands from different eras, one who emerged during the grunge days in the 90’s, and the other of present. Gavin Rosdale, frontman of Bush and husband of Gwen Stefani, fired up the night singing classic hits from their debut album Sixteen Stone. Evanescence followed with splendid performances, capping the night with full excitement from fans.

Here are some clips coming from fans who were fortunate enough to be near the stage.

Amy Lee’s voice was great as ever and their rendition here of My Immortal was superb.

Manila Boy’s Town Remembered

It’s been what, 6 months after we last visited the Manila Boy’s Town in Marikina, and I wonder how these kids are going especially that it’s school time once again. The pics I’ve posted here were shot when we checked out the place and some fortunate families were giving away some toys to everyone as their Christmas present. Hope more well fortunate families will do the same in helping these kids.
