Video of the week: Kawehi’s version of Heart-Shaped Box

Making waves this week is Kawehi, born in Honolulu and based in Lawrence, Kansas, who did an amazing rendition of one of Nirvana’s hit Heart-Shaped Box. It was not your usual cover song approach with heavy band set-up as she did an electronica-styled thing which sounds fresh.

And unlike other artists who had covered it, hers was different as she’s a one-woman band, using mostly of what technology brought us nowadays like midi controllers and looper effects. She was so good that her video went viral and got featured on Spin and Esquire.

An interesting fact on my part was that a couple of days ago before she got featured on the site, a friend send me a link of her video of a Nine Inch Nails cover and it totally blew me away. It was a perfect timing as well because lately I’ve been shying away to play guitar and itching to learn on how to use midi controller (sorry I’m not a techy guy). Watching her play made me an instant fan!

So here’s my video of the week, her version of Nirvana’s Heart-Shaped Box.
