Guns N’ Roses Live, Not in This Lifetime

After three long decades of waiting, Guns N’ Roses finally did a show in the Philippines. And it totally rocked! The Not in This Lifetime tour definitely is a once in a lifetime event for the wild fans in this country so when they heard about the news about Philippines as being one of the Asian countries that’s part of the tour’s stops, rockers from that era gathered in the largest arena in the land (perhaps in Asia as well?) the Philippine Arena, come showtime. They even brought their kids to the concert and let them experience first hand the hard rockin’ music their parents once listened.

As for this author, it’s the second time around to see the legendary guitar icon Slash, but this time it’s sweeter because he’s playing with the band that got him on the map, with almost the original lineup, and this one had many audience compared to his first stop wherein seats weren’t filled (his solo project band’s show happened a week earlier than the sold-out concert of Aerosmith).

As expected, it turned out as a sing-along from Filipino fans whenever the band played familiar tunes and when they played unfamiliar songs, fans kept mum. But all in all, it was great seeing original members Axl on vocals, Slash on guitar, Duff on bass and Dizzy Reed on keys live onstage along with the guys from The Psychedelic Furs and Love Split Love Richard Fortus on guitar and Frank Ferrer on drums. Of course there’s FIl-Am Melissa Reese on keys and synths to compliment well on the band’s overall sound. It was nostalgia all over again.

For those of you who’ve missed it, here’s some clips from fans who have shared it on YouTube. But nothing beats the feeling of watching it live hehe.

Slash Live in Manila

One of the guitar heroes around the world, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash visited Manila for a one night show last April 4th at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The famous rocker was with his back-up band The Conspirators that featured Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge) on vocals. Myles definitely showed the crowd why he’s one of the most in-demand rock singers in the U.S.

It was a surreal experience because I only see Slash on videos, I remembered back in grade school I used to watch their Use Your Illusion Concert and got awed at how they performed even though at that time I was not into guitars yet. And now I get to see him in the flesh doing those melodic solos off his Les Paul guitars! (Yes he’s got many and each song he changed guitar hehe).

What’s totally mind-blowing was when his band played some GnR classics for the delight of the fans. It’s really a different feeling when you see Slash does those songs like Sweet Child O’ Mine live, you felt its spirit and intensity.

Unfortunately for the show, it was not jam-packed to my huge surprise. Maybe people were anticipating for the Aerosmith show that they’ve missed another Hall of Famer. Anyway, it was one rockin’ evening that definitely inspired many to play a Les Paul guitar!

Here are some of the vids uploaded by the fans. Many thanks for sharing them.
