Today we celebrate the birthday of one of the fiercest blues guitarists of all time, the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan. SRV was one of the most influential guitar players of all time and creating a unique style of playing, he mixed the styles of his influences like Buddy Guy, Howlin’ Wolf, Albert Collins, Freddie King, Jimmy Reed, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Elmore James, Otis Rush, The Yardbirds, The Rolling Stones, Lonnie Mack, Jimi Hendrix and Albert King. His legacy continues after his fatal death in 1990 – helicopter crash, with new blood of artists doing what he’s left. Some of these famous artists are John Mayer, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Doyle Bramhall II, Jonny Lang, Mato Nanji, Los Lonely Boys and many more.
SRV’s style has been a big influence in my guitar playing too – a big part of it revolves around his chops and so as a tribute, here’s a vid of one of his songs from the In Step album, entitled “The House Is Rockin'”..
May the blues be with you!
