The Year That was 2014

Taking a look back at 2014, I would say it’s 50-50 good and bad or even 40-60 as we’ve lost many great artists this year. Bad news were all over the pages which overlapped the good ones. One of my greatest basketball heroes locally was still in a coma (as of this writing) after collapsing in their exhibition game although he’s showing some good signs now like breathing on his own according to the latest news updates so hopefully he gets back sooner. More prayers needed for this awesome person please!

Personally, it’s a good one but not as good as 2012 and 2013 (except for injuries and illness incurred in those years). Schedule from work has become more unpredictable that has kept me away from other stuffs that I usually do that caused me to get less sleep (been in front of the computer for 12 hours or more with no active movements, at worst 24 hours) which in turn had me eating more without burning them thus gaining weight again.. uh oh (the last time I hit this weight was back in 2009-2010).. So need to cut back again. I also rarely got a chance to post a new blog here – adventures, activities and what not were scarce.

In terms of playing gigs, haven’t had that much unlike before when I could play almost every week with different artists, only the latter part of the year did I get visible again in the scene and I rarely played my guitar nowadays, reason why my fingers are aching every time I hit the string in a wrong position.

But with all those misses, there were some bright spots personally like getting to travel and play a gig overseas and recording tracks with other artists on some projects.

Hopefully in this Year of The Sheep (Hey that’s my year!), it will be a lot bigger, of course good heath to everyone.

Video Skit: The Fastest Kid in Town

Superheroes have become bigger these days both in cinema and television, thanks to the huge hits by Marvel’s Avengers and other notable characters. DC meanwhile is making its own run and before we see Justice League in the big screen, they had created success in the small screen via Arrow and it’s latest installment The Flash. I’ve been a fan of the latter when I was young so when I learned that the Scarlet Speedster is getting a reboot on t.v., it got me thrilled. I’ve watched the show’s episodes and the effects were great. I was totally fascinated about the speed effect used so I tried to make one. I incorporated the latest Flash’s t.v. soundtrack as a tribute. This is still a work-in progress though as I haven’t included the streaks on the scene’s actions (still figuring it out :))

Here’s the skit I created which was inspired by The Flash.

Skit: What Time Is It?

When boredom strikes at the same time creativity suddenly flows in your head, you just can’t wait not to do it or else it would be gone. Just like in songwriting when, in the middle of the night and everyone’s asleep, a songwriter has these ideas or words or melodies suddenly came up inside his/her head, he/she will write it asap even if it’s on wee hours so as not to lose it. The same thing occurred to me when I saw my nephew wearing this 70’s vintage wrist watch from his dad. An idea suddenly popped up and I got inspired to create a skit out of it.
Making a video featuring a one-year old kid is quite challenging as you have to handle their moods. Luckily I’ve pulled it off, with patience of course. 🙂

Here’s the short video.

Of Work and Other Activities

Time flies fast that I didn’t notice we’re in the start of second half of the year. Wow, it’s already July and schedule has become tighter from work. This only means one thing, playing gigs would be an occasional thing may be, (hopefully not hehe) but will definitely squeeze in the recording sessions for other artists if time permits. Getting busier these days that I neglected other stuffs that I usually do, one is work out regimen (already experiencing some health issues because of stress and other factors) and the other posting blogs here.

Anyway, I’ve made something productive in those days that I’m not blogging. Of course my day job has always eaten up most of my time but fortunately I was able to record tracks from my other band, Sigwada Experiment, which is making its second album, contributing ukulele and guitar parts to the upcoming album of Half Life Half Elf (composed of singer Alfie Mella of Half Life Half Death, one of the pioneers of the New Wave scene here in the Philippines), arranging and layering guitar and synth tracks for a still unnamed soon-to-release new wave project, collaboration with Canada-based Bipoy DelaCruz aka Icebox, providing additional rhythm and solo guitar tracks to a song by Ram Chavez, known for joining the first season of GMA Networks’ Pinoy Idol and creating some music beds for a tv show on a local network. Also played some special shows with friends from other groups, so blessings are coming my way which I’m very grateful. Looking forward to more collaborations.

Back to Regular Programming

The long hiatus is over, now I’m back to regular blogging. It’s been awhile since I did my last post, well, not that I intentionally stopped this thing, I actually had the itch to post something new during those times but couldn’t because of some troubles from the server that got over the way. It’s like that you wanted to do the things you wanted but something’s stopping you from it that’s beyond your control and the only thing to do is wait until everything’s back to normal again, in this case, the site is up again after it got some 403 errors.

Now that the site is back, problem is where do I begin?. The hiatus took so long that I forgot how to do this, from logging in to posting to updating my site’s dashboard (I’m still figuring out my dashboard! haha). It even came to a point where I wanted to discontinue but thought that it would be a waste since I’ve been doing this for quite some time and has been part of my routine already. FYI, blogging was just an accident for me, but I considered it a good one. It’s been ironic because although I worked as a content writer in 2008, I was really not into the personal blog site thing, I don’t even have this site and only started creating one after two years. I just got influenced by a former colleague/friend who also happened to introduce me to Tumblr and other things about blogging. Another great writing colleague/friend also influenced me when I was starting, yeah they’re my blogging idols and in a way, they’ve been very instrumental so I have to thank them dearly for that, it’s been a pleasure being with those beautiful pips around.

A lot of things happened last year by the way, it was a great 2012, got to see some live acts which I’ll be posting in a couple of days. But of course 2012 was not all hits, there were also a lot of misses as we experienced tragic news that include deaths of great local artists such as Philippine’s king of comedy Dolphy, director Marilou Diaz Abaya, Grin Department vocalist Bong Pascasio and others. In commemorating them, let’s have a minute of silence.. May they rest in Peace and God bless their souls.
