Just hours after reading the news about the death of a local musician, here’s another sad music news, this time it’s on the international scene. A great talent is gone too. Amy Winehouse, an English singer-songwriter was found dead. The sultry singer was known for her eclectic style of mixing genres from R&B to jazz. A critically acclaimed musician, she was the only British female act to win five Grammy’s, thanks to her 2006 sophomore album “Back to Black” which spawned a number of hit singles including “Rehab”. Her career then skyrocketed and gained international accolades but her talents got overshadowed by her drug and alcohol addictions. With her international success, she paved the way for other European artist like Adele and even Lady Gaga on making it easier for unconventional women to have mainstream pop success.
She was 27… That number creeps me out, ’cause it means she’s now part of the 27 club, famous and influential artists who died at age 27.
Let us take a look back at one of her performances. May you rest in peace.
